Our Story

Always tinkering!

Whether it was making fishing floats from drinking straws or making a go kart from pram wheels my mum used to say I was always tinkering, and I have never really stopped!

Circa 2010 and I answered a post on Freecycle offering used go kart tyres for free. When I arrived back home with 250 tyres crammed into our family car my wife was horrified. ‘I’ll turn them into planters’ I told her, ‘you can take them back where they came from’ she replied! Of course I didn’t listen  and for a decade and a half this large stack of tyres was shuffled around our garden!

Fast forward to 2019 when we adopted Ella our energetic Labradoodle. She was 7 months old when we brought her home and she already had a strong desire for fetch games, balls of any kind were her thing until one day I had a light bulb moment. ‘If I cut the wall from one of those tyres I wonder if it will fly’. It flew alright in fact if flew beautifully and Ella loved it more than any of her other fetch toys and has played with one ever since.

In November 2024 we were in our local park having our usual game of fetch when another dog owner ‘Tibor’ approached us to ask what we were playing with ‘your dog loves that’ he said. Having lots of spares I said he could have it for his Rottweiler ‘Bubbles’ (check her portrait below). Two days later he told me that Bubbles wouldn’t leave it alone and tell me that I should be selling them.

And so from my little garden workshop TyreFlyer was born and the response from everyone who has tested and purchased one ever since has been overwhelming. Thank you so much Tibor for the encouragement!

I’m still busy tinkering, with more rugged dog products made from go kart tyres are in the pipeline so check in regularly or better still give TyreFlyer a follow on your favourite social platform to be in the know when we release our next products.

If you are an owner of a TyreFlyer I really hope you and your pooch are enjoying it but either way I would love your feedback so we can improve them and I would be even happier if you were to share pics of your dog having a great time.
